Thanks so much for considering adoption
Where do our adopters come from? Generally speaking, our adopters are in the Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas area. However, our first priority is adopting our foster animals to the right home, regardless of where that home may be.
Conveniently located in south Kansas City, our newly expanded campus sits on more than 50 beautiful acres. Featuring a Pet Adoption center, Animal Rescue facility, Bark Park, Behavior & Training facility, Vet Clinic and Pet Memorial Services, Wayside Waifs is more than 50,000 square feet in size.

Paws Crossed is a section 501(c)3 no kill foster-based rescue group based in the Kansas City, Missouri and Johnson County, Kansas metro areas. We are dedicated to rescuing pets left homeless, in high euthanasia shelters, and those in danger of abuse and neglect. We assist pets without regard to age, breed or ease of placement to the extent our finances allow, with the pets in greatest need taking priority. Animals in our care are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, and provided additional veterinary care as needed. Our animals are placed in foster homes where they wait for placement in a permanent home. Paws Crossed, Inc. strives to place pets in loving and committed permanent homes through a comprehensive adoption process which includes educating prospective adopters about costs and responsibilities associated with bringing a new pet into their home as well as finding a good match for both the pet and the families. The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is a private non-profit organization that has been helping animals in our community since 1912. We strive to promote the general welfare of dogs and cats in the greater Kansas City area. We do this by providing education, preventive veterinary care, adoptions, and spay/neuter services to prevent pet overpopulation.Have you ever seen an adorable cat or kitten up for adoption and featured on your local news channel? Those great cats and kittens aren’t rare finds! They are the norm, and just about everywhere – including right here in Kansas City – there are too many pets and not enough homes choosing to adopt them. Unfortunately, many animals are still not spayed or neutered resulting in thousands of unwanted cats and kittens each year. Our partnership with Kansas City, KS Animal Control saves and improves the lives of dogs and cats at the city shelter. Our veterinary staff provides the medical care for pets at the KCKAC shelter. Pets who are seriously sick or injured are transferred to us for more extensive lifesaving care. Every weekend, our volunteers conduct satellite adoption events with KCKAC pets at the PetSmart in Olathe, dramatically increasing the number of adoptions for the city shelter... We are a 501(c)(3) Missouri Nonprofit Corporation, licensed with Missouri as an Animal Care Facility, and with Kansas as an Animal Shelter, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding new homes for unwanted dogs. We specialize in purebred toy-breed, purebred chihuahua and purebred sheltie rescue in the Greater Kansas City area both Missouri and Kansas. Many of our dogs are owner turn-ins; some are strays; others are adopted out of local shelters if their time is up. Our dogs are spayed or neutered (or adopted out under a pre-paid spay/neuter contract if under 4 months of age), heartworm checked negative, and given rabies, kennel cough and parvo/distemper innoculations. Many of our dogs are wormed, and some receive extensive dental care. We provide pre- and post-adoption education on care and maintenance of our pets, from veterinary needs to behavioral issues. The number and kind of dogs we rescue is decided solely by our foster parents on a case-by-case basis.
